Open Source Art Zine

Here’s some more progress on the open source zine idea I’ve had recently. I’ve been seeking advice on the Inkscape and GIMP forums, but feel free to add any thoughts ;-)

I saw this (via here):

And I instantly saw this:

The Shape of Digbeth, ladies and gentlemen, is a cat. If you should encounter this cat please have a supply of catnip with you.

Open Source Art

Although I’ve ordered a copy of FLOSS+Art, made by the excellent OSP I’m compiling my own thoughts on the concept of Open Source Art. You can view my progress on my wiki. I’m relatively new to using MediaWiki, having only previously used PBWiki, so once I have gotten my head around it more please do feel free to add or edit what I have written. I’m treating the writing of this document as an open source project in itself ;-)

Thoughts on Open Source Art

I’m currently delving into Open Source Art. Here’s a mind map I created using Freemind

I’m still writing something more about it but it’s proving to be a gargantuan-sized task! Feel free to debate and discuss

Wordpress Idea - Trackback for themes

I’ve suggested an idea for future wordpress builds.

The overall idea is that theme authors can see potentially see who is using their theme. This wouldn’t be automatic, and maybe there could be two options such as 1) send notification to theme author and 2) allow information to be displayed on authors’ website. I feel this could help notify users of any theme updates and also link them with people who have used the theme and modified it in any way.

I’m making a theme for portfolio websites at the moment so this would be a useful feature for me. Go vote!

Your life is crap

I’m amazed it got through to my inbox and even more amazed that it isn’t trying to sell me viagra or breast enlargements. Could this be the new Idetrorce?

Smugness

I’m relatively new to the social blogging scene. That is, I’ve had a private blog for years, but only recently ventured out to going public. I’ve got a very small number of people subscribed to my feeds and I get little traffic to my website each day. But that’s not why I blog of course. I do it just ’cause I’ve got something to say. This is why I was really chuffed when I saw that someone had bookmarked my tutorial via del.icio.usss-05062008-122350am Smugness

It’s second from the bottom ;-)

Linux Alternative Project

I found the Linux Alternative Project to be quite useful in finding alternatives to popular software packages that are Linux compatible. However, for those of us still on Windows/Mac, the Open Source Alternative website is more regularly updated and probably more useful ;-)
